SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Sutton
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract Type: Temporary and permanent
Salary: £100 – £115 per day (depending on experience)
Join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Sutton, dedicated to supporting pupils with a wide range of additional and complex needs. We are currently seeking a compassionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to provide tailored support and help create a nurturing, structured learning environment.
About the Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to support pupils with additional needs on a 1:1 or small group basis. This role is ideal for someone passionate about inclusive education, with the patience, empathy, and resilience to support pupils academically, socially, and emotionally.
Responsibilities:
- Support pupils with SEN in class, in small groups, and on a 1:1 basis
- Adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual needs and EHCP targets
- Assist with personal care, where required (training provided)
- Implement agreed behaviour support strategies
- Encourage social interaction and emotional development
- Prepare and organise classroom resources and specialist equipment
- Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals
Requirements:
- Experience working with children with SEN (essential)
- Experience in a school or educational setting (essential)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- First Aid qualification or willingness to train (preferred)
Working Conditions:
- 30 hours per week (term-time)
- Classroom-based role supporting pupils with complex needs
- May include physical support and personal care duties
