Job Overview
The IT Assistant will provide first-line technical support to ensure the effective operation of IT systems within our GP practices at St Mary’s Surgery, Ely and Priors Field Surgery, Sutton. The postholder will support the IT Manager, clinical and administrative staff with day-to-day IT issues, maintain hardware and systems, and liaise with external IT providers where necessary.

The role is key to maintaining system availability, supporting digital working, and ensuring compliance with NHS data security and information governance standards.

Responsibilities

1. IT Support and Helpdesk

– Act as the first point of contact for all IT-related queries within the practices.

2. Hardware and Equipment

– Install, configure, and maintain IT equipment including PCs, laptops, printers, and peripherals.

3. Network and Infrastructure Support

– Assist with basic network troubleshooting including connectivity issues.

4. Information Governance and Security

– Support compliance with NHS data protection, GDPR, and information governance policies.

5. Systems Support and Development

– Provide support to staff using clinical and administrative systems.

6. Training and User Support

– Provide guidance and informal training to staff on IT systems and processes.

Experience

– Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and general IT systems.

– Basic understanding of networks, hardware, and software troubleshooting.

– Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly.

– Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.
