The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, band 3, Health Care Support Worker to join the nursing team within the General Surgery Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
Ward 65 is a busy surgical unit which requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
We have five Surgical wards, two 30-bed wards (ward 65 and 66) and a 13 bed Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), ward 63 (30 beds) and 64 (30 beds), which are surgical receiving wards.
You will play an important part in the patients’ journey, working within the unit, assisting registered nurses and the clinical team in the care of patients undergoing elective surgical procedures.
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Key responsibilities:
You will support the delivery of patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, assisting with admission, transfer, and discharge processes in line with procedures.
You will monitor and record vital signs (e.g. blood pressure, pulse, temperature), reporting any changes or concerns in a patient’s condition promptly to the nurse in charge. You will also assist with basic wound care, dressing application, and minor procedures such as urinalysis and specimen collection.
You will provide support with personal care, including hygiene, nutrition, hydration, and safe patient repositioning, always maintaining dignity and comfort.
You will help maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked clinical environment, reporting any faults or concerns, and assist with the safe management of patients’ personal belongings.
You will contribute to accurate patient documentation, including charts and records, and ensure compliance with all Health and Safety policies, including infection control, COSHH, fire safety, and manual handling.
