Location: Glasgow (Townhead/ Parkhead) Hours: 25hrs Days: Monday to Thursday.

Purpose of the Job: To provide early intervention and intensive family support to achieve improved outcomes for children and families.

General Responsibilities:

The family support work is designed to develop strategies for growth which respond to identified needs for individual families. This work is carried out within the context of the Promise, Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) – Wellbeing Indicators and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

1 To deliver early intervention group-work sessions and intensive one to one support to meet the needs of families.

2 To develop a whole family support approach to assist parents/carers to manage their circumstances to reduce any adverse impact on their child’s care and protection.

3 To liaise/co-work with relevant agencies concerned with families in the community eg health visitor/social worker and be an active member of relevant interagency groups.

4 To record and monitor the work with families to capture the journey and provide reports which demonstrate achievement of identified outcomes.

5 To ensure that the work carried out is within the policies and procedures of Stepping Stones for Families.

6 To attend regular supervision sessions and meetings as appropriate.

7 To take part in and contribute to staff development activities within and out with the organisation.

8 To work in a flexible way to suit the urgent or unforeseen requirements of the organisation.

Person Specification

Essential

• Insight, understanding and empathy towards the needs of parents and an ability to understand and support parents in a non-judgemental way.
• Ability to build rapport, trust and working relationships with children, young people and the wider family.
• Proven knowledge and experience of the Promise, Getting it Right for Every Child-Wellbeing Indicators and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
• Experience of developing and managing groups within a community setting.
• Excellent communication skills with a strong ability to listen and reflect on practice.
• Self-motivated, solution focused and positive thinker.
• Experience of working with other agencies including cross referrals and an ability to update and communicate appropriate information.
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a wider team.
• Excellent planning and organisational skills.
• Proven experience of monitoring and evaluating the work and ability to submit reports demonstrating achievement of outcomes.
• Commitment to equality of opportunity and human rights.
• Qualification in Social Work; Community work; minimum SVQ3 Social Services (Children and Young People) or equivalent qualification and 2 years proven experience of working with parents in a community setting.

Pay: £21,567.00 per year
