This post is varied and includes contact with patients and many Health Care Professionals associated with admitting patients for surgery.
We are looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal/communication skills and the ability to work in an environment, where demands and priorities change quickly.
We are looking for someone with a minimum of one year’s experience working in administration within an NHS patient/customer focused environment with excellent verbal and written communication skills to ensure accurate and timeous information sharing across the multi-disciplinary team.
An awareness of Government Access targets would be advantageous but not essential. You must be well organised, flexible and able to work on your own initiative and demonstrate confidence in independent decision making.
The successful candidate for the post will work Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, although you will need to be flexible to the needs of the service and be committed to high quality patient care. You will be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site.

To take a lead role in co-ordinating the waiting lists of a group of Consultants in accordance with Trust Policies and government wait time targets for elective surgery, both urgent/cancer and non-urgent, adding to waiting lists/ensuring VBC compliance and calculating pathway dates in line with local and national targets ensuring these targets are not breached.
To co-ordinate admission and associated pre-operative assessment appointments, ensuring all key hospital staff are aware of any organisational arrangements.
To coordinate surgeons’ theatre lists, including selecting appropriate cases in clinical/ chronological order and with appropriate attention to medical requirements of the procedures ensuring theatre lists are utilised to their full potential.
Schedule surgery and any other related appointments across surgical specialties, monitor progress, identify potential breaches & liaise with clinician/other parties to resolve, plan and manage effective utilisation of theatre lists.
To arrange interpretation services for any relevant appointments.
Have the ability to manage the demands of a high-pressure, fast-paced environment to ensure service continuity.
Provide information to assist performance reporting and resolution of queries or complaints (e.g. Inphase) as required
Based in the North East of England, Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust provide a range of hospital and community health services from a range of sites/facilities including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon Urgent Care Centre and Bensham Hospital. The Trust also supports services across a wider geographical area such as our screening services and our tertiary specialist services, such as Gynae Oncology.
Established in 2005, we were one of the first foundation trusts in the country and since then have consistently achieved high levels of care for patients.
As a group we employ around 4,200 staff and currently provide 600 hospital beds across Gateshead. Our primary focus is on providing excellent general health services to our local community complemented by key specialist areas including Gynaecology, maternity, palliative care and old age psychiatry.
Working alongside an existing team of seven other team members within the Waiting List Team in the Division of Surgery, Women’s Health & Children at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
