Job Title: Volumetric Content & Creative Technology Intern
Location: London, UK
Industry: Deep Tech / Acoustic Levitation / Holography
Employment Type: Internship (2–4 months)
About AcoustoFab
AcoustoFab is pioneering the next generation of interfaces and display technologies using acoustic levitation—a method that uses sound waves to trap and manipulate small objects in mid-air.
Our systems can precisely control levitating particles at high speed, enabling entirely new types of volumetric visuals and physical effects that are not possible with conventional displays.
We are an early-stage deep-tech company developing core IP across levitation, control systems, and real-time rendering. Our work sits at the intersection of physics, hardware, and interactive experiences, and we are exploring how these capabilities can be turned into compelling demonstrations and future products.
Role Overview
We are looking for a creative and hands-on intern to help us explore content creation for a new acoustic volumetric display platform.
This is not a traditional software or engineering internship. The focus is on creating visual scenes and working demonstrations using levitated particles, lightweight physical materials, projection, motion, light, and timing. The work sits somewhere between creative technology, experimental animation, stagecraft, and holographic storytelling.
You will help us move beyond technical demonstrations of what the system can do, towards more imaginative examples of what it can show. This may include building simple theatrical scenes, projection-mapped props, animated volumetric characters, and other visual experiences that combine physical objects with digital content.
You will work in a highly experimental environment, where ideas are tested quickly and refined through making. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys prototyping, visual experimentation, and working with emerging technologies where the creative language is still being discovered.
What You’ll Work On
· Creative Prototyping: Develop quick, tangible experiments that explore how acoustic levitation can be used as a medium for visual content, spatial effects, and theatrical demonstrations.
· Volumetric Content Creation: Design simple animated content using levitated particles, such as paths, characters, visual trails, symbols, creatures, or scene-based effects.
· Physical and Projected Scene Building: Experiment with lightweight materials, translucent props, projection mapping, lighting, and simple scenic structures to create hybrid physical-digital environments.
· Demo Development and Iteration: Combine motion, timing, software control, projection, and physical setup into coherent demonstrations, then refine them based on how the system behaves in practice.
· Documentation and Showcase Material: Capture demos through short videos, photographs, notes, and descriptions, contributing to a growing library of content examples that show the platform’s creative potential.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
· Educational Background: Currently pursuing or recently graduated from a degree in Creative Technology, Design, HCI, Interactive Media, Computer Science, Engineering, Digital Arts, Animation, or a related field.
· Creative Technology Mindset: You enjoy combining software, physical materials, light, motion, and interaction to create compelling visual experiences.
· Hands-on Prototyping: Comfortable making things quickly using tools such as 3D printing, laser cutting, craft materials, workshop tools, cameras, projectors, or simple electronics.
· Basic Coding: Some experience with programming, ideally in C++, Python, JavaScript, Unity, Processing, TouchDesigner, or similar creative coding environments.
· Visual and Spatial Thinking: Interest in creating scenes, animations, spatial effects, interactive installations, or experimental display content.
· Experimental Attitude: Comfortable working with unfamiliar tools, imperfect prototypes, and open-ended creative challenges.
Nice to Have
· Experience with projection mapping, real-time visuals, animation, motion design, or audiovisual synchronisation.
· Experience with physical computing tools such as Arduino, sensors, motors, LEDs, or simple electronic circuits.
· Experience with graphics or creative coding tools such as OpenGL, Unity, TouchDesigner, Blender, Processing, p5.js, or similar.
· Interest in stagecraft, immersive installations, holography, acoustics, robotics, or hardware-software systems.
· A portfolio, sketchbook, GitHub, showreel, or examples of personal projects showing that you like to build, test, and experiment.
What We Offer
· Paid Internship: Competitive monthly stipend for the duration of the internship.
· Unique Technology Exposure: Work directly with cutting-edge acoustic levitation and volumetric display systems in our London lab.
Pay: £25,000.00-£26,000.00 per year
