You will be working alongside several higher specialist trainees and will have opportunities to experience elective and emergency GI and general surgery (60% clinical duties) whilst also developing your skills in postgraduate education (40% educational time).
The post is split between clinical (approximately 60%) and educational (approximately 40%) work.
Clinical work will be at the level of an ST3 and involve on call duties and support of SAU, including ward work and support of F1s and core trainees. You will also attend outpatient clinics and theatre sessions under supervision.
Educational work includes responsibility for the provision of a departmental induction and teaching programme for F1s in addition to supporting a developing programme of multi-professional simulation. You will also be involved in a range of other educational activities for the department.
You will need to have completed Foundation training or equivalent and core surgical training or equivalent, to have passed the MRCS and be capable to managing the surgical take at a junior registrar level with support from a consultant.
The Trust has a track record of providing excellent experience in similar posts within the Medical Directorate and they are very popular. We have a good record of previous incumbents of this post going on to secure training posts in General Surgery.
This is a great team and popular on the regional rotation due to the access to training opportunities and experience gained in a supportive environment.
You will be supported to do a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (or equivalent) whilst in post.
You will have a clinical commitment which will include OPD, theatre and on call commitments, with the intention of splitting your time between clinical (40%) and educational (60%) activity.
