Transport Manager job at Chelmsford Full Time NEW

A&F Haulage Ltd are seeking a Transport Manager to oversee and manage the transport operations at our south East sites. Business is involved in asphalt and aggregates part of the construction materials and infrastructure industry.

As Transport Operations Manager, you will take a hands-on approach to managing drivers and day-to-day transport operations. You’ll be responsible for planning and optimising schedules, ensuring full compliance with driver hours and legal requirements, and maintaining high service standards. Alongside this, you’ll build strong relationships with customers and drivers, proactively resolving issues and keeping operations running smoothly while balancing performance and cost.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and manage customer orders as part of daily transport operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing
• Plan and schedule deliveries in line with network requirements, optimising routes and resources
• Monitor and track vehicle movements, proactively following up to ensure service levels are maintained
• Communicate daily plans and timelines, quickly resolving any operational issues that arise
• Manage Proof of Delivery (POD) processes, ensuring accurate and timely documentation
• Develop and maintain transport schedules, planning ahead to maximise efficiency and service performance
• Allocate and manage driver shifts, ensuring full compliance with driver hours, Working Time Directive, and legal requirement

About You:

• Experience in transport, logistics, or distribution is essential
• Knowledge of driver hours and transport compliance is essential
• Strong organisation and problem-solving skills
• Confident communicator, able to work independently
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
