Salary: £37,694 – £46,049 pro rata

Term: Fixed Term (12 months)

The Department of Humanities is a community of researchers, teachers, students, and support staff working together on cutting edge issues in contemporary culture. English & Creative Writing (ECW) is an integral part of the Department and wider University with popular honours and joint-honours undergraduate degrees, three Masters-level programmes (in Creative Writing; Literature, Culture & Society; and an MFA in Creative Writing); and a vibrant PhD community. Creative Writing is ranked 1st in the UK in the current The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide.
We seek to appoint a Teaching Associate to join our ECW subject team, on a 0.6 FTE fixed term maternity cover contract, with relevant creative practitioner and teaching experience, to deliver creative practice-based modules across the curriculum.
We welcome applicants with specialisms in any area of practice in Creative Writing but are particularly keen to attract applicants who can contribute to research-informed and practice-based UG & PG modules in experimental fiction and poetry; genre writing; and a module on the contemporary writing landscape in Scotland. They should also be able to supervise practice-based UG and PG dissertations.
The role involves delivering a range of established teaching modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with guidance as required, in a manner that supports a research-informed and practical approach to student learning; undertaking student assessment and examination activities, including the provision of appropriate feedback to students; supervision of students as required, providing direction, support and guidance and contributing to curriculum development activities.
To be considered for this role it is essential you have a relevant good honours degree and PhD (or equivalent professional experience) and have demonstrable practitioner and teaching experience. You will have the ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively, work in a team environment and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences. Experience of curriculum development and student supervision would be advantageous.
Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Andrew Meehan, Subject Leader of English & Creative Writing ([email protected]).
