Reception Staff job at London Full Time

AKIRA at Japan House London is currently seeking a Reception Staff member to join our team.

Working under the guidance of Japanese Master Chef Hal Yamashita, you will play an important role as the first point of contact for our guests, helping create memorable experiences and a welcoming atmosphere from the moment they arrive.

Reception is more than simply managing bookings—it is a key role that shapes the first impression of the restaurant and supports the overall guest journey and experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Greeting and welcoming guests upon arrival
• Managing reservations and booking enquiries via phone, email, and online platforms
• Handling reservation systems such as SevenRooms and similar platforms
• Reception and cloakroom duties
• Answering telephone calls and responding to guest enquiries
• Supporting guest services during private events and special occasions
• Coordinating with the front-of-house and kitchen teams
• Assisting with guest information management and service improvement initiatives
• Providing service with a strong awareness of Japanese hospitality and attention to detail

Requirements

• Previous experience in restaurants, hotels, cafés, reception, or customer-facing roles
• Basic customer service and hospitality skills
• Strong communication abilities
• A team-oriented approach and positive attitude
• Interest in Japanese cuisine and Japanese culture
• Valid UK work authorisation is preferred

Preferred Skills & Qualities

• Experience using reservation systems such as SevenRooms or OpenTable is welcomed
• A genuine desire to provide thoughtful and personalised guest experiences
• Ability to remain calm and organised in a fast-paced environment
• Friendly, professional, and attentive communication skills
• Willingness to support not only reception duties but also broader restaurant operations when needed (including occasional assistance with bar or floor service)

Working Conditions

Location: AKIRA, High Street Kensington, London

Employment Type: Part-time
(Three-month probation period followed by review)

Opening Hours:

Tuesday–Saturday: 12:00–17:00 / 18:00–22:00
Sunday: 12:00–18:00
Monday: Closed

Shifts:

Including opening preparation and closing duties
Approximately 30–40 hours per week (subject to discussion)
