Make a difference to the lives of children and young people in West Berkshire
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Public Health Project Officer (Children & Young People) to join our Public Health team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people across West Berkshire. You will lead the coordination and development of the West Berkshire Health & Wellbeing in Schools Programme, working closely with schools, education colleagues, health services, and community partners to embed a whole-school approach to health and wellbeing.
You will also support a range of wider children and young people’s public health programmes, helping to deliver projects that improve outcomes in areas such as emotional wellbeing, physical activity, healthy eating, oral health, PSHE, and early years support.
Role
As Public Health Project Officer, you will:
- Lead the coordination and implementation of the Health & Wellbeing in schools programme across West Berkshire
- Build strong partnerships with schools, early years settings, health professionals, and community organisations
- Support schools to meet statutory responsibilities and align with the Ofsted inspection framework in relation to health and wellbeing
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate public health projects focused on children and young people
- Use local data, intelligence, and evidence to identify needs, inform programme development, and evaluate impact
- Produce reports, briefings, and presentations for stakeholders and partnership groups
- Support wider projects addressing health inequalities and improving outcomes for vulnerable children and families
Skills and Attributes
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Knowledge and understanding of public health issues affecting children and young people
- Experience of working in a school or education setting is desirable
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with a range of stakeholders
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team

- You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement starting at 29 days per annum (plus public holidays) Rising by an additional 5 days after 5 years’ service.
