Payroll Officer

• Annual Salary: upto £39,000- this is a temp to perm opportunity.
• Hourly pay rate whilst temping : £21.43 per hour PAYE OR £27.33 per hour via umbrella.
• Location: Sutton (parking on site)
• Job Type: Full time office based, 35 hours per week.

We are looking for a Payroll Officer to join the finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to deliver client-focused payroll services across a range of organisations within the borough.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines.
• Calculate tax, National Insurance, and pension deductions.
• Process statutory payments such as SMP, SSP, attachment of earnings, and salary sacrifice schemes.
• Upload BACS payment files and liaise with clients regarding payroll payments.
• Act as the first point of contact for payroll queries, providing expert advice.
• Carry out payroll reconciliations and ensure audit compliance.
• Maintain payroll ledgers and support finance processes including raising invoices, reconciling accounts, and assisting with bank reconciliations.
• Support VAT returns, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Contribute to service improvements and process efficiencies.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience in payroll processing, ideally 5+ years in a bureau or multiple payroll setting.
• Strong working knowledge of Sage Payroll and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent understanding of HMRC legislation, RTI, and pensions.
• Experience managing high-volume payrolls.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Desirable: Payroll or finance qualification (e.g., CIPP, AAT, ACCA).
• Experience with payroll-related accounting and reconciliations.
