Hours: 22.5 – 30 hours per week (Agile working negotiable)
Salary: £30,000 per annum (FTE)
Location: Cornerstone Building, Mercy UK
The Finance Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the financial health, transparency, and accountability of Mercy UK. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, supporting strategic decision-making, and maintaining strong financial controls.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Financial Operations & Accounting
● Oversee day-to-day financial processing including donations, grants, and trading income.
● Maintain purchase/sales ledgers and reconcile bank accounts using Sage Business Cloud.
● Monitor cash flow and process domestic and international GBP payments.
● Administer staff expense claims and ensure financial records are accurate and up to date.
2. Budgeting, Reporting & Analysis
● Assist in monthly management accounts, budget tracking, and variance reporting.
● Provide analysis to support planning and decision-making across departments.
● Support annual budgeting processes with the CEO and departmental leads.
3. Payroll & Statutory Returns
● Manage in-house monthly payroll (including volunteer honorariums), pensions, and HMRC submissions.
● Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with employment and tax regulations.
4. Gift Aid & Fund Management
● Process annual Gift Aid claims and maintain compliant donor records.
● Monitor restricted/unrestricted funds and produce funder reports.
5. Audit & Compliance
● Support year-end accounts and audit preparation.
● Ensure compliance with internal policies, Charity Commission, and Companies House reporting.
6. Systems & Improvements
● Recommend improvements to financial systems and controls.
● Contribute to the development of finance policies and procedures.
7. Cross Organisational Work
● Willingness to coach staff and associates in Mercy’s financial practices.

● Remaining flexible, discerning, innovative and open to change and offering skills, strength and support to promote and empower freedom and transformation.
