Job Advert
At Switch Up, we provide individual, life-changing support to young people in communities affected by crime and violence. We do this through sport, mentoring and personal development, with the aim of improving mental and physical wellbeing and giving young people the skills, confidence and motivation to realise their true potential. We engage young people through our boxing gym and other sport, providing mentoring, counselling, education and personal development to develop champions in and out of the ring.
This is an exciting time for Switch Up and, as a growing organisation, we are looking for upbeat, passionate and committed Education Tutors who share our values. As an Education Tutor, you will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality, safe and inclusive education through our Alternative Provision. You will work with young people of school age and post-16 on a one-to-one or small group basis.
The young people we work with have often struggled in mainstream education for a variety of reasons. Some may have been excluded, others may have SEMH or SEN needs, and many require a flexible, personalised approach to learning to help them re-engage and achieve a basic education.
You will have strong, proven tutoring skills, with experience teaching in schools or other educational settings. You will bring the drive, enthusiasm and resilience needed to work with some of the hardest-to-reach young people, and the creativity to make learning engaging and accessible. Our targeted youth mentoring team works alongside the Alternative Provision, and there will be opportunities for you to support mentoring activity where appropriate.
This role is pro rata, term time only (actual salary £20,923 – £22,596, inclusive of annual leave and bank holiday pay). This may be negotiable for candidates with strong transferable skills and experience.
