North Tyneside Council are recruiting for qualified Education Mental Health Practitioners to join our Connect Mental Health Support Team.
Our schools really value the support from the team and this role provides a great opportunity to provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions to pupils, provide advice and guidance to parents and help to develop a whole school approach to mental health.
The Connect Mental Health Support Team is part of the development of our mental health and emotional wellbeing offer across the council. Joining North Tyneside Council will enable you to be part of an innovative approach to supporting children and families and will help you to develop professionally, through a range of CPD opportunities locally and via Northumbria University.
As an Education Mental Health Practitioner, you will be expected to work as part of a dynamic mental health support team in a creative environment where evidence-based interventions and new ideas for ways of working and supporting children and young people are actively encouraged.
This approach requires flexibility and adaptability, and above all a passion for working with children and young people in educational settings. You will also have a part to play in developing our offer and we will value the knowledge and experience you bring to the team if successful. You will be well supported through our comprehensive supervision model and have access to a range of CPD opportunities.
The Education Mental Health Practitioner role will:
- Work closely alongside a team of mental health professionals delivering a wide range of evidence informed interventions.
- Practice evidence-based skills to work directly with children, young people and families.
- Practice evidence-based skills to carry out holistic and child-centered mental health assessments, including risk assessments.
- Provide advice and guidance to school staff and work closely with Senior Mental Health Leads in schools.
The successful candidate is required to have:

Successfully completed training as an Education Mental Health Practitioner
- Experience of working effectively with children and young people, their families and others.
- Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders
- Experience of working effectively with children and young people who have social, emotional and/or mental health difficulties
- Experience of delivering Whole School Approach activities to promote emotional wellbeing in schools.
