Financial Accountant — Part-Time

Location: Ampthill — primarily office-based with some flexibility
Hours: 21 hours per week — ideally 3 full days or 4 shorter days would be considered
Salary: £45,000–£55,000 FTE, pro rata
Actual salary: £27,000–£33,000 per annum for 21 hours per week

About the Role

We are a growing marketing agency looking for a technically strong Financial Accountant to take ownership of our core finance function, strengthen financial controls and improve the quality, accuracy and visibility of our reporting.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working in detail, bringing structure to financial processes, and ensuring the business has clear, reliable financial information. You will work closely with the Finance & Operations Director and leadership team to support better decision-making across the agency.

A key part of the role will be taking ownership of the financial elements of the monthly board pack, ensuring that financial performance, cashflow, forecasts, risks and key insights are presented clearly and professionally. You will need to be confident translating detailed financial information into concise, commercially useful commentary for senior stakeholders.

We are also looking for someone with excellent Excel skills and an AI-forward mindset, who can help us improve the way we use systems, automation and data to produce accurate reporting, stronger cashflow forecasting and better financial insight.

Key Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day ledger controls across sales, purchase and general ledger
• Complete full balance sheet reconciliations
• Manage cashflow reporting, forecasting and scenario modelling
• Identify opportunities to improve forecasting through automation and AI tools
• Prepare and review VAT returns
• Support tax compliance and statutory processes
• Manage month-end close and management reporting
• Own the financial elements of the monthly board pack, including performance reporting, cashflow, forecasts and key financial commentary
• Present financial information clearly and confidently to senior stakeholders
• Translate financial data into practical insight, highlighting risks, opportunities and recommended actions
• Support consolidations and multi-entity accounting, where required
• Strengthen financial controls and improve finance processes
• Identify opportunities to automate manual tasks and improve accuracy, efficiency and visibility
• Liaise with external accountants, auditors and advisors

What We’re Looking For

• ACCA / ACA / CIMA part-qualified or qualified, or equivalent experience
• Strong technical accounting capability
• Advanced Excel skills, with strong modelling, reconciliation and reporting capability
• AI-forward mindset, with confidence using AI tools to improve finance processes, reporting, forecasting and insight
• Comfortable identifying opportunities to automate manual tasks and improve accuracy, efficiency and visibility
• Strong financial systems capability, with the ability to get the best out of existing tools and recommend improvements
• Experience in multi-entity environments
• Confidence managing VAT and statutory compliance
• Experience preparing management accounts, board packs or senior-level financial reporting
• Strong financial presentation and reporting skills
• Confident preparing board-level financial commentary and insight
• Able to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
• Detail-oriented and able to work independently
• Someone who enjoys the technical side of finance and continuous process improvement
• Experience in a project-based or agency environment would be advantageous, but is not essential
