A General Labourer in steel fabrication supports fabricators, welders, and machine operators by handling materials, maintaining a clean and safe workspace, and performing basic manual tasks essential to production. The role is hands‑on, physically demanding, and central to keeping workflow moving efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Material Handling — Load, unload, move, and position steel plates, beams, tubes, and components using manual handling techniques, pallet trucks, or lifting equipment (after training).
• Workshop Support — Assist fabricators and welders by preparing work areas, fetching tools, and holding or positioning materials during cutting, welding, or assembly.
• Basic Machine Assistance — Operate simple workshop equipment such as grinders, saws, drills, or deburring tools under supervision.
• Surface Preparation — Clean, grind, or prep steel components before fabrication or welding.
• Cleaning & Maintenance — Keep the workshop tidy by sweeping, removing scrap, organising tools, and maintaining safe walkways.
• Quality Checks — Perform basic visual inspections for defects, incorrect measurements, or damage before passing materials to fabricators.
• Safety Compliance — Follow all site safety rules, wear PPE, and report hazards or equipment issues immediately.
• General Duties — Support other departments as needed, including packing, loading finished products, or assisting with deliveries.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong practical, hands‑on ability and willingness to learn fabrication processes
• Good physical fitness for lifting, standing, and manual work
• Basic understanding of hand tools and workshop equipment
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
• Awareness of health & safety in industrial environments
• Reliable, punctual, and safety‑conscious

Preferred Experience (Not always required)

• Previous work in steel fabrication, construction, or manufacturing
• Experience using grinders, drills, or basic power tools
• Forklift, overhead crane, or telehandler training (if applicable)
• Knowledge of measuring tools (tape measure, vernier, square)

• Shift work or overtime may be required depending on production needs
