Full job description
We are seeking an organised Accounts Assistant to provide essential support to our accounting department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their finance career in a supportive environment where you can gain valuable experience across various accounting functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Process invoices, receipts, and expense claims accurately
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate records
- Input financial data into accounting systems
- Prepare and send invoices to clients
- Chase outstanding payments and maintain payment records
- Assist with credit control procedures
- File and maintain organised financial documentation
- Support month-end and year-end processes
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with VAT return preparation
- Process petty cash transactions
- Support payroll administration when required
- Maintain spreadsheets and financial databases
- Liaise with suppliers, clients, and internal departments
- Assist with audit preparation and documentation
- Perform general administrative duties to support the finance team
Requirements
- Previous experience in an accounts assistant, finance assistant or similar role
- Good understanding of basic accounting principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent numerical skills
- Good organisational and time management abilities
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Reliable and professional approach
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Team player with a willingness to learn
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or similar accounting software
- AAT qualification (studying or completed) or working towards one
- Knowledge of VAT regulations
- Experience in hospitality, retail or service industry accounts
