About the Role

We are recruiting motivated and skilled Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) to support delivery of the Our Future Health programme.

This is a key clinical and operational role within mobile clinic settings, focused on delivering a safe, efficient, and participant‑centred service. You will be responsible for completing a standardised set of clinical assessments, supporting participant flow, maintaining high standards of quality and safety, and contributing to the collection of high‑quality data essential to this nationally significant research programme.

Working closely with the Service Delivery Lead (SDL) and wider clinical team, the HCSW plays a vital role in upholding service quality, supporting daily operations, and ensuring an excellent participant experience.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• Complete all required participant assessments, including:
• • Blood pressure
  • Pulse
  • Height and weight
  • Waist measurement
  • Venous blood sampling
• Ensure all clinical measurements and samples are taken safely, accurately, and recorded promptly in the clinical system.
• Monitor participant welfare throughout appointments and escalate any concerns appropriately.
• Provide signposting, advice, and guidance to participants where relevant.
• Prepare, label, and package samples in line with protocol for courier collection.

Operational & Service Delivery

• Support participant flow to minimise delays and maintain an efficient service.
• Provide on‑site operational support and escalate issues to the Service Delivery Lead as required.
• Offer administrative support and provide cover during staff breaks or periods of increased activity to maintain service continuity.

Quality, Safety & Governance

• Conduct site‑level assessments and provide feedback on safety, clinical effectiveness, patient flow, staffing, and skill mix.
• Escalate risks or concerns to the Regional Manager or Head of Nursing as appropriate.
• Report incidents, near misses, accidents, and complaints via Datix.
• Contribute to investigations, audits, service reviews, and quality improvement activity.
• Support the implementation of learning outcomes and continuous service improvements.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 12 months’ phlebotomy experience, with validated competency in venepuncture.
• Experience working in an outpatient or similar clinical environment.
• Trained in Basic Life Support (ILS/ALS desirable).
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with participants, colleagues, and visitors.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary clinical teams.
• Good understanding of quality standards, KPIs, risk assessment, incident reporting, and infection prevention and control.
• Highly motivated, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, service‑driven environment.

Desirable Experience

• Flexibility to travel between sites to meet service needs.
• First Aid training.
• Experience supporting team development or performance management.
• Demonstrated ability to motivate, support, or lead others.
• Experience contributing to service improvement initiatives or pathway redesign.
