Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Senior Student Engagement Officer to join our institution. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering meaningful relationships with students, organising engagement activities, and supporting student development initiatives. 1. Purpose of the Role
1.1. The Senior Officers are responsible for leading and coordinating the College’s approach to student engagement. This role encourages active participation from the student community through structured representation systems, involvement in decision-making bodies and the delivery of diverse and inclusive events. The postholders will contribute to an engaging academic and social environment by strengthening the connection between students and the institution.;
2. Main Responsibilities
4.1. Develop and lead student retention strategy
Identify risk points and coordinate early interventions that support retention
4.2. Monitor attendance, progress and retention data
Use college dashboards to track engagement and flag issues early
4.3. Deliver behaviour-focused initiatives
Plan behaviour code awareness, conduct interventions and campaigns
4.4. Build relationships with academic departments and support services
Coordinate with tutors to support struggling students
4.5. Ensure compliance with behavioural, safeguarding and academic standards
4.6. Analyse and report retention trends termly
Present findings with action plans to SLT and relevant boards
4.7. Promote equitable academic engagement
Work with reception and recruitment to address early student disengagement
4.8. Work one month per year directly with Reception and Recruitment
Gain operational insight and contribute to service improvement
4.9. Participate in CPD and technology training
Advance use of engagement and tracking tools
4.10. Carry out other appropriate duties consistent with student experience
4.11 Lead student experience strategy
Create meaningful engagement opportunities across all stages of the student lifecycle
4.12 Manage Student Association & representatives
Support elections, training, coordination and meetings
4.13 Plan and run enrichment calendar
Design and deliver activities across the year that enhance the social experience
4.14 Deliver wellbeing and inclusion programmes
Host workshops and support awareness campaigns (e.g. Mental Health Week)
4.15 Organise and manage Student Association elections
Deliver fair elections annually, ensure active representation
4.16 Meet with Student Reps weekly (1:1 and group)
Provide a support channel and feedback loop to leadership
4.17 Coordinate monthly meetings with SA President and Vice Presidents
Ensure regular communication and reporting
5. Key Responsibilities Related to Documentation
5.1. The postholder will lead the review and updating of the following:
a) Student Engagement Policy
b) Student Engagement Manual
c) Student Engagement Guidance Materials
6. Essential Qualifications and Experience
6.1. A degree or equivalent level of education.
6.2. Experience of working within a further or higher education setting.
6.3. A background in planning and managing events or activities involving diverse stakeholder groups.
6.4. Previous experience supporting or supervising colleagues or student leaders.
6.5. Proven ability to manage projects and monitor budgets.
6.6. Understanding of agencies and processes related to higher education, for example UCAS or UKVI.
6.7. GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics, or willingness to achieve this if not already held.
6.8. A commitment to maintaining and developing personal professional knowledge and effectiveness (desirable).
