STEMtacular Childcare is looking for a caring and enthusiastic Early Years Educator to join our friendly and forward-thinking team in Saffron Walden, Cambridge.

You’ll play a vital role in supporting children’s learning and development from birth to five, delivering high-quality EYFS practice within a nurturing, inclusive and STEM-inspired environment. As a Key Person, you’ll build strong relationships with children and families and help create meaningful learning experiences through play, curiosity and exploration.

STEMtacular Childcare operates early years settings specialising in high-quality, inquiry-led STEM provision for children aged 0–5 years. Main Purpose of Job:

The Early Years Educator is responsible for delivering high-quality care and education to children aged 0–5, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and development at all times.

The post-holder will work as part of a room team to provide a nurturing, inclusive and stimulating environment where children learn and develop through play. Early Years Educators act as Key Persons, build strong relationships with children and families, and contribute to the delivery of a rich, STEM-informed EYFS curriculum.

Teaching, Learning & Development

• Deliver high-quality care, teaching and learning in line with EYFS.
• Plan, prepare and support developmentally appropriate activities that meet children’s individual needs and interests.
• Use observation and assessment to understand children’s learning and plan next steps.
• Support children’s personal, social, emotional, communication and physical development.
• Promote curiosity, exploration and early STEM thinking through play-based learning.
• Act as a Key Person, building secure attachments and supporting children’s wellbeing and learning.

Safeguarding & Child Protection

• Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children at all times.
• Follow nursery safeguarding policies and procedures and report concerns appropriately.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Support children’s emotional wellbeing and sense of safety.
• Participate in regular safeguarding training and keep up to date with statutory guidance, EYFS, and local safeguarding procedures.
• Understand and adhere to safer recruitment principles, confidentiality, and professional conduct related to child protection.

Partnership with Parents & Professionals

• Build positive, respectful relationships with parents/carers.
• Share information about children’s learning, development and wellbeing.
• Support parental involvement in children’s learning.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals where required.

Inclusion & SEND

• Support inclusive practice for all children, including those with SEND or emerging needs.
• Work with colleagues to implement agreed support strategies and interventions.
• Promote equality, diversity and respect within daily practice.

Health, Safety & Wellbeing

• Maintain a safe, clean and stimulating learning environment.
• Follow health and safety procedures, including risk assessments and hygiene routines.
• Support children’s physical care needs, encouraging independence and self-care skills.

Professional Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively as part of a team, supporting positive relationships and practice.
• Attend training, meetings and professional development activities as required.
• Engage in reflective practice and continuous professional development.
• Undertake any reasonable duties required to support the smooth running of the nursery.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff, sharing information only when appropriate or legally required.
• Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and positive communication at all times.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a high-quality learning environment and positive team culture.

Additional Information

This post is exempt from The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 as the position involves working within the close proximity of young children. The post holder will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and to be a member of the DBS Update Service.

All staff will be subject to regular supervision sessions and will be required to sign a suitability declaration on an annual basis to ensure that ongoing suitability is monitored.

All staff must hold an in-date paediatric first aid certificate.

All employees are made aware of their responsibility to notify their Line manager(s) immediately of any changes to their circumstances that may affect their suitability to work with children – this is also the case in terms of any changes to the circumstances of those who live with the member of staff.
